Survivor Letter 18

One year ago next month, I made my dreaded annual trek for a mammogram.  With a flippant wave of my hand, I left when asked if I wanted to wait for the results.  There was never a problem before, why would this time be any different?  Well, the phone was ringing when I walked into my house 15 minutes later.  Another mammogram, a biopsy, and then the most important question, what did I want to do about it?

Cancer – well, I live in Buffalo, and cancer to me means Roswell Park.  That was the best decision I ever could have made.  I have never felt more scared and helpless, and the wonderful doctors and nurses in the breast center helped me through all that.

My surgeon is Dr. Rizk.  She is upbeat, and kind, and very good at her job.  My treatment involved a lumpectomy and radiation, hormone therapy and monitoring are still in the picture.  I can’t say enough about the kindness and understanding that I received from all the people at Roswell.  Everyone cares, and listens, and understands.  We are truly blessed here in Western New York to have Roswell Park.
